Renfrew County Catholic District School Board Announces Liam Young as New Vice-Principal of Bishop Smith Catholic High School

Pembroke, ON – December 16, 2025 – The Renfrew County Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce that Liam Young, current special education teacher at Bishop Smith Catholic High School (BSCHS), has been promoted to the position of Vice-Principal at BSCHS. 

Liam began his career with the RCCDSB as an Occasional Teacher in 2019. He then spent two years in the United Kingdom, where he worked with students with special needs and at-risk youth, before returning to Canada in 2021. In 2021, he resumed his work at the RCCDSB in Long Term Occasional Teaching positions at Cathedral and St. James. Following his Long Term Occasional assignments, he was hired as a permanent teacher at Valleycrest in Pembroke, where he taught from 2023-2025.

Most recently, Liam has served as a special education teacher at Bishop Smith Catholic High School (BSCHS). This extensive experience, particularly with special needs and at-risk students, will be invaluable as he steps into his new role as Vice Principal.

“Liam’s focus on the success of all students, particularly at-risk youth, and his prior experience in the UK education system bring a unique and valuable perspective,” commented Mark Searson, Director of Education.“We are certain he will build on the solid foundation of his school community and motivate our staff and students to reach their highest potential.”

I look forward to using my experience, particularly in supporting students with special needs and those who are at risk, to ensure every student in our community has the opportunity to succeed and thrive. Bishop Smith has a strong foundation, and I am eager to work alongside the administration, staff, and families to continue fostering a positive, inclusive, and high-achieving environment.”

Liam Young will become Vice-Principal at Bishop Smith effective January 1st, 2026. The Board looks forward to welcoming him to the leadership team in the New Year.
