Pembroke, ON – On June 13th, Bishop Smith Catholic High School hosted the much-anticipated Destination Imagination Showcase, an all-day event celebrating the ingenuity and collaborative spirit of over 100 students and team managers from various Renfrew County Catholic District School Board (RCCDSB) schools.

Students demonstrated their engineering, technical, and improvisational skills through a series of dynamic presentations and performances. Teams engaged in a variety of Instant Challenges designed to test their ability to think on their feet, work cohesively, and innovate solutions under time constraints. These challenges not only highlighted the students’ academic skills but also their ability to collaborate effectively and think creatively under pressure.

“We are thrilled to see such an impressive display of talent and creativity from our students,” said April Laabs, committee member and teacher at Bishop Smith CHS. “The Destination Imagination program is a wonderful opportunity for students to develop critical skills in a fun and supportive environment.”

Participants showcased projects that ranged from intricate engineering designs to imaginative improvisational skits, each illustrating the depth of their preparation and the strength of their teamwork. The event provided a platform for students to exhibit their problem-solving abilities and creative thinking, core components of the Destination Imagination ethos. “We had so much fun working together as a team, preparing for the day and for our final skit. We were very proud of our tallest tower-making skills.” explained student participant, Abigail Gilbert-Zapotichny.

“Today’s showcase is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and their team managers,” remarked Karen Keels, committee lead and principal of St. Francis of Assisi. “It’s inspiring to see how they’ve embraced the challenges and worked together to achieve such remarkable results.”

The event was not just a competition but a celebration of learning and growth. Student, and DI alumni, Makaila Holm said, “It was an amazing day full of imagination and the DJ’s pumped the tunes, adding to the day’s vibrant and encouraging atmosphere.”

Destination Imagination is a global educational program that encourages teams of learners to explore their creativity and problem-solving skills. Through project-based challenges, students gain invaluable experience in areas such as STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), the arts, and service learning.
